WUNDER & WEGE

With “Wunder und Wege” the Kronberg Festival continues its musical exploration of courage.

At the heart of the programme is Thomas Hampson, one of the foremost Mahler interpreters of our time. His interpretation of the songs from Des Knaben Wunderhorn brings striking immediacy to music that has lost none of its relevance.

Together with Oksana Lyniv and the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, Hampson creates a concert that connects past and present. The world premiere of Yuri Laniuk’s Elegy for Large Orchestra (Message to A. G.) extends this arc into the present day, offering an artistic statement for the future.

Grieg’s richly coloured Peer Gynt Suites bring the evening to a close, powerfully demonstrating how music can offer solace, provide a sense of direction and open up new paths.
