Jacopo Giovannini

Described by Piano News as “poetic and spirited” and praised by Dame Imogen Cooper as “fantastic, beautifully controlled, with wit and colour,” Jacopo studies with Prof. Claudio Martínez Mehner in Cologne and is also pursuing a postgraduate Konzertexamen in chamber music with Prof. Angelika Merkle. He previously studied with Prof. Bernd Goetzke at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media.

A semi-finalist at the Queen Elisabeth Competition, Jacopo has performed in some of the world’s most prestigious concert halls, including the Alte Oper Frankfurt, Salle Cortot in Paris, Flagey in Brussels, the Romanian Athenaeum in Bucharest, the Auditorium in Rome, Carnegie Hall in New York and Severance Hall in Cleveland. He is also a regular guest at some of Europe’s leading festivals, including the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and the Rheingau Musik Festival.

Jacopo began playing the piano at the age of four. At five, he won his first competition before an international jury, and at six he gave his first recital at Palazzo Barberini in Rome. At the age of eleven, he made his debut as a soloist performing Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in the Great Hall of the Shostakovich Philharmonia in St Petersburg under the baton of Anatoly Rybalko.

He is a highly active chamber musician, performing in both duo and trio formations. With his permanent ensemble, the Elster Trio, he received the Förderpreis of the Rheingau Musik Festival as well as the silver medal at the renowned Schumann Competition in Frankfurt.

Among the musicians who have had a significant influence on his artistic development in recent years are M. Kent Nagano, Prof. Antti Siirala, Prof. Jacques Rouvier, Prof. Benedetto Lupo, Alexander Melnikov and Tabea Zimmermann.
