„Verspielt“ celebrates the joy of making music together – with virtuosity, charm and a generous dose of wit.

For the first time, the Korean Chamber Orchestra appears at the Kronberg Festival. One of Asia’s most distinguished chamber orchestras, the ensemble is acclaimed worldwide for its exceptional precision and remarkable tonal flexibility. Together with the award-winning violinist Ji Young Lim and cellist István Várdai, it presents a programme rich in colour and contrast.

The evening opens with Jisoo Lee’s arrangement of the traditional Korean folk song Jindo Arirang – a musical greeting from the orchestra’s homeland. Boccherini’s Cello Concerto, Tchaikovsky’s passionate Pezzo capriccioso, Gluck’s famous Melody in Fritz Kreisler’s arrangement, and Waxman’s virtuosic Carmen Fantasie lead through a succession of contrasting sound worlds before Dvořák’s Serenade brings the evening to a close with its warm, lyrical beauty.

A concert that sees playful lightness not as the opposite of artistic excellence, but perhaps as one of its most beautiful expressions.
