Two composers, two works – and one artist shaping both from the keyboard and the podium.

In this concert, Sir András Schiff takes on the dual role of pianist and musical director of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe. Mendelssohn’s Hebrides Overture opens the evening with a landscape in sound, inspired by the rugged Scottish coast, the sea, the wind and the sense of vastness.

At the heart of the programme is Schumann’s Piano Concerto in A minor. Far from being a conventional virtuoso showpiece, it unfolds as an intense dialogue between piano and orchestra. Poetry, passion and chamber-like intimacy come together in a work that reimagines the boundaries between solo concerto and symphonic thought.
