ILLUMINATION

„Illumination“ explores sound worlds suspended between light and shadow, vision and classical clarity.

At the heart of the programme is Benjamin Britten’s Les Illuminations. Inspired by Arthur Rimbaud’s radical, vividly imagistic poetry, Britten created a compelling song cycle poised between ecstasy, unease and luminous beauty. Anna Prohaska is an ideal interpreter for this music: versatile, adventurous and possessed of an immediate stage presence.

With Elgar’s restrained Elegy, the perspective shifts before Noah Bendix-Balgley takes centre stage in Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 4. Under Riccardo Minasi, Ensemble Resonanz shapes an evening in which the avant-garde and the classical tradition do not appear as opposites, but illuminate one another.

A concert about artistic curiosity – and the courage to experience familiar beauty from new perspectives.
