What happens when two cellists take their instrument beyond the familiar boundaries of the classical repertoire? As CelloFellos, Bryan Cheng and Leonard Disselhorst reveal just how limitless the cello can sound.
Their programme brings together original compositions with jazz, tango, folk and musical influences from across the world. “Toichi’s Mountains” meets Herbie Hancock and Bobby McFerrin, Astor Piazzolla encounters Béla Bartók, and Romanian themes merge with Leonard Disselhorst’s own distinctive sound worlds. Along the way, the cello becomes by turns a melodic voice, a bass, a rhythmic engine – or an entire ensemble in its own right.
