DAVID GERINGAS ZUM 80STEN
David Geringas is one of the defining cellists and teachers of our time. To mark his 80th birthday, the Kronberg Academy pays tribute to him with a deeply personal homage that brings music and biography together.
Music critic Jan Brachmann reads from Geringas’ memoir Sag das niemandem. In it, the cellist reflects on his studies with Mstislav Rostropovich, his international career and encounters with some of the most significant artistic figures of the 20th and 21st centuries.
Together with Tatjana Geringas, Jens Peter Maintz and Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt, the programme includes Schumann’s Widmung, Brahms’ Minnelied and Couperin’s Pièces en concert in an arrangement for three cellos by David Geringas himself. The result is not a conventional birthday concert, but a many-layered portrait: personal, musical and shaped by friendship and gratitude.
A matinée-style encounter with an artist who has influenced generations of cellists and passed on his knowledge with extraordinary dedication.
