Participants

Programme

Edward Elgar (1857–1934)
Cello concerto in E minor op. 85

Robert Schumann (1810-1857)
Symphony no. 4 in D minor op. 120

Concert without intermission

Robert Schumann's Fourth is not a classical symphony: its movements flow into one another without pause, merging into a single whole. The result is an organic sound that draws the listener in. Melancholic, comforting sounds envelop the listener in Edward Elgar's elegiac cello concerto with its vibrant tonal language, which can also be healing. Above all, the dark, intense cello tone of soloist Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt captivates the audience. All in all, it promises to be a rousing final concert of the Kronberg Festival on October 5.
